When booking car rental services via the phone, face to face or through digital channels, we ask for your name, postal address, telephone number, email address, drivers license number and date of birth. This helps us to process your booking, to contact you if we have any problems with your request or to send you an electronic confirmation of any quotes obtained, or bookings made. If you pay for your rental at the time of booking you will be asked to enter your payment card type, number and expiration date to enable us to take your payment
We will maintain electronic records of all rental agreements and other transactions you enter into with RÁS Car Rental.
You can view/access and correct the personal data we hold about you at any time, see the Accessing and updating information section on how to do so. You have the right to ask us to erase the data that we hold about you (in some cases), you have the right to have a copy of the data provided in an electronically readable format, you have the right to have the data ported elsewhere, you have the right to object to us processing your data and if so the right also for us to restrict processing until the data has been erased or an agreement has been reached between ourselves and you as to the circumstances surrounding the objection. You also have the right to restrict us from processing for other circumstances. You have the right to be informed of any data breach which may result in high risk to your rights and freedoms as a data subject, you also have the right to be notified of further processing of your personal data. We will process your data if you have given us your consent or to perform a contract with you for car rental, and/or to comply with legal obligations and/or for existing customers, we have a legitimate interest as the data controller for any of the uses of data explained in the above section (VIII).
RÁS Car Rental is legally obliged by Icelandic law to provide personal data regarding renters to collections and other authorities in the event of non-payment of tolls and accruing fines, unpaid parking charges and fixed penalty offences.

We take the responsibility of protecting your personal data very seriously and are committed to making every effort to keep your personal data safe and secure. We use industry standard best practice technical controls such as firewalls and data encryption to keep your data safe. Our website uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to protect personal information such as credit card details when making a booking. Any personal information that we hold as part of your customer profile will be held in a database with physical and technological security controls and procedures in place. Only the last 4 digits of your credit card number will be displayed when viewing, amending or deleting your credit card details or on any booking on our website. However, we would ask you not to enter any payment card numbers into fields on our website, unless that the field is specifically marked for that purpose.
You are welcome to see the information held about you at any time and to make the necessary amendments to keep the information up to date. This is called a Subject Access Request. To submit a subject access request, please contact us quoting your name and address and either your driver’s license number or date of birth (for verification).
We will retain your personal data for a period of up to seven years after a rental for accounting purposes. Account holder’s data will be retained until the customer request cessation and then for a period of seven years for accounting purposes after which it will be deleted. For renters who fail to show, personal data will be held for a period of six months and deleted thereafter.
